Availability

AT&T internet options are currently available in 21 states and many cities throughout. To find out what specific options are available in your city, you can visit their website and check availability using your ZIP code.

Contracts

A contract is not required to purchase AT&T internet. However, contract options are offered and in some cases, required to qualify for promotions. If you have a contract with AT&T internet, it will typically be one to two years and will be subject to an early termination fee if you cancel early.

Equipment

Equipment is included with AT&T Fiber plans, but all other AT&T internet plans have a $10/mo. equipment fee for the equipment necessary for your service, including a modem and Wi-Fi gateway. A modem and gateway or router are what connect Wi-Fi devices in your home to the internet service. AT&T’s gateways are a combination of modem and router.

AT&T internet speed

The kind of speed you get through AT&T primarily depends on whether you have fiber service or DSL/fixed wireless. If you have fiber, AT&T is one of the fastest internet providers out there, with speeds all the way up to 5,000 Mbps* — more than any household would ever conceivably need. But if you have DSL or fixed wireless, your speeds will be much slower, and will largely depend on where you live.

*Speeds based on wired connection. Actual speeds may vary. Single device wired speed maximum 4.7Gbps. For more info, go to www.att.com/speed101. Updated as of 04/29/25.

AT&T internet reviews

AT&T has received mostly positive reviews from customers. It has a 76/100 score from the American Customer Satisfaction Index, which puts it third behind only T-Mobile and Verizon.

AT&T internet reviews are heavily tied to which type of service you’re getting. Customers with AT&T Fiber will likely have more than enough speed, while DSL and fixed wireless customers may be frustrated by lagging internet.

How does AT&T compare?

With prices starting at $55/mo.,** plus taxes (w/ eligible Autopay & Paperless bill), AT&T doesn’t have much for customers looking for the very cheapest internet plans. But you will get a lot of value for that price, with 300 Mbps** of download and upload speeds.
